General Electric Company is an American diversified giant that produces a wide range of products - from some types of plastics to medical equipment, lighting and military products.

The company was founded in 1878 and initially was exclusively engaged in the development and implementation of electric lighting systems, which were just beginning to replace kerosene lamps and lanterns. But in the 20th century, the scope of its activities expanded significantly, including through the sale of electrical equipment.

General Electric on the stock market

The corporation's shares are listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker GE. They have been part of the Dow Jones Industrial Average since 1907 and were removed from it only in 2018. Thus, General Electric is the only company in the world with a continuous presence in the index and is currently the only existing one of the 30 whose assets were included to the index when it is created.

GE shares are currently a component of two other indices, the S&P 100 and S&P 500.
